Two receive probation in Carson County marijuana and DWI
On Tuesday, Sept. 2, three pleas took place in the 100th Judicial District Court in Carson County.
Luke Inman, the District Attorney for the 100th Judicial District, along with Assistant District Attorney Harley Caudle, prosecuted the cases for the State of Texas, with the Honorable Judge Dale Rabe.
Joel Palma, 18, from Perryton, Texas, was placed on two years probation for the class a misdemeanor offense of possession of marijuana.
Palma was arrested by DPS Trooper Jonathan Medellin in Carson County on April 6, 2024. Palma pleaded to an information filed by the State on July 24, 2024.
Palma was ordered to pay an upfront fine of $4,000, $305 in court costs, $180 lab fee, and complete 100 hours of community service. If revoked, Palma faces up to a year in county jail.
Palma was also placed on two years probation for the class a misdemeanor offense of unlawful possession of a criminal instrument stemming from the same arrest by Medellin.
Palma was ordered to pay another $4,000 fine upfront and $305 in court costs. If revoked, Palma faces up to 180 days in county jail.
Benigno Pastor, 63, from Amarillo, was convicted and sentenced to ten years in prison, but the sentence was probated for a period of three years for the third degree felony offense of Driving While Intoxicate, 3rd or more.
Pastor was arrested by Carson County Sheriff’s Deputy Ethan Derrick on March 28, 2024. Pastor was indicted by the Carson County Grand Jury on Dec. 19, 2024.
Pastor was ordered to pay a $500 fine, $60 lab fee, $305 court costs, complete 200 hours of community service, and all the DWI requirements under Chapter 49.
