Linda Wanell Whitt

Linda Wanell Whitt, 83, of Panhandle, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Graveside services will be held at 11a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in Panhandle Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Minton Chatwell Funeral Home in Panhandle.

Linda was born on Jan. 14, 1943, in Lelia Lake, Texas. Linda was the daughter of Gladys Rich Tice and Tilman “T. J.” James Tice. She married the love her of life, Wilbert “Wil” Lee Whitt, on June 4, 1962, in Clarendon, Texas. As a proud military wife, Linda and Wil made several moves before returning home to Panhandle, where they settled near family, to raise their two sons, James and Donald Whitt.

Linda worked for several businesses throughout the years before finishing her career by owning and operating a house-cleaning business alongside her sister, Barbara, until retirement. While she worked hard throughout her life, her greatest calling was caring for those she loved.

After retiring, Linda found her greatest joy, spending time with family. She especially loved cooking for everyone, particularly during the holidays. Every member of the family had a favorite dessert that “meme” made, and the holidays simply wouldn’t have been the same without them. She never let anyone leave hungry, but if by chance, you complained about what she cooked, with her signature wit and a grin, she’d simply say, “Well, you can just kick your can down the road!”.

The kitchen table was the heart of Linda’s home, where countless memories were made over home-cooked meals, laughter and fiercely competitive games of UNO. If you sat down to play, you quickly learned that there was “no mercy.” Eventhough Meme somehow always seemed to end up with the most cards in her hand, she would sit there laughing. Whether she won or lost never really mattered. What mattered was having her family gathered around the table, sharing laughter, making memories, and simply enjoying one another’s company. Those evenings became some of the family’s most treasured traditions and will continue to bring smiles for generations to come.

More than anything, Linda treasured her family. She loved hearing stories about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, looking through pictures, celebrating their accomplishments, and sharing in every adventure, big or small. Her greatest happiness ce from simply being surrounded by those she loved.

Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wilbert “Wil” Whitt, parents T.J. and Gladys Tice, and her sisters, Loretta Colwick and Barbara Ivy.

She is survived by her sons, James Whitt and wife Melody of Panhandle, Donald Whitt of Panhandle, sister Nora Suttels and husband Dale; six grandchildren, Tabitha Seitz and husband Cody of Panhandle, Corey Whitt of Panhandle, Austin Whitt, and wife Tess of Celina, Ryan Whitt of Amarillo, Tyler Whitt of Amarillo, Zach Whitt and wife Shelby of Panhandle; seven great-grandchildren, Koen Whitt, Lakelynn Whitt, Kaisen Whitt, Paisley Whitt, Hazel Whitt, Ethan Seitz and Kaytie Seitz, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and many dear friends.

Linda’s legacy is not measured by the years she lived, but by the love she gave so freely. Her laughter around the kitchen table, the desserts she lovingly prepared, the competitive games of UNO, and the countless memories she created with her family will live on for generations. Though she will be deeply missed, her love remains woven into the hearts of all who knew her.
