Dorothy Mecaskey Wright, 88 of Amarillo, formerly of Panhandle, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Trinity Fellowship Church.
Dorothy was born in Crowell, Texas, to Sim V. and Bonnie Ruth (Tarver) Gamble on April 9, 1937, and was a 1955 graduate of Crowell High School. She married Leonard Leroy Haseloff on Nov. 23, 1953, and later married Robert F. Mecaskey on May 26, 1971. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1982. She was a long-time resident of Panhandle before moving to Amarillo in 1992. She married Jim Wright on July 22, 1994, and they moved to Sunday Canyon. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2000 and after his passing, Dorothy moved back to Amarillo.
Dorothy’s favorite thing was being a mother to her children. She was a hard worker at everything she did. In the kitchen, she would fry up the world’s best fried chicken, real mashed potatoes and gravy. She loved to bake, make cinnamon candy and drink sweet tea with lemonade. She was an amazing supporter and fan of all the kids’ events, rarely missing any of them. She was devoted to her family and was lovingly known as “Mac” by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, whom she adored.
She was a receptionist and secretary for Comico American Inc. in Borger for 13 years. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Panhandle. She later became a member of Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo in 2012. She loved the Lord and her country.
Dorothy loved dancing and was a member of “Top Hatters Ballroom Dancing”. She was an avid card player especially Poker and Bridge and enjoyed playing golf at the Panhandle Country Club.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; son, Sim Rodney Haseloff; sister, Jean Frost Long; brother, Mike Gamble; son-in-law, Stephen “Boo” Urbanczyk; stepdaughter, Sharla Wright; grandson, Jeremy Haseloff; and grand-dog, Duchess.
Survivors include five children, Len Haseloff and wife, Marsha, Becky Miles and husband, Larry, Lisa Gilbreth, Leslie Urbanczyk, and Shane Mecaskey and wife, Marnie; son-in-law, Jacky Gilbreth; seven grandchildren, Heath and wife, Lori, Haley, Paige and husband Matt, Beth Ann and husband Brandon, Josh and wife Holly, Jacob, and Ryleigh; grand-dog Dancer; and 10 great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Knox, Faith and husband Cade, Avery, Isaac, Taylor, Kaiden, Brayden, Zaidan, and Haydon; two great-great-grandchildren; extended family, Bill Kinzer, special friend Bruce Lemaster; dear friends “you know who you are”; and a host of many more friends.
The family suggests memorials be to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105; Disabled American Veterans, 860 Dolwick Drive, Erlanger KY 41018 or your favorite charity.
