Jorge Escamilla
1941 – 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jorge Escamilla, who left us on April 27, 2026. Funeral Mass was read on Saturday, May 2, at St. Francis Catholic Church, with burial following at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo.
Born on May 10, 1941, in Eagle Pass, Texas, Jorge was a true jack of all trades. He had a remarkable knack for business, running Advanced Flooring and Remodeling for many years, and he loved the thrill of making a deal in real estate.
Jorge was a familiar face at the local flea market, where he spent his weekends chatting with friends and welcoming visitors to his booth. His genuine warmth and friendly demeanor made him beloved by all who knew him.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Jorge cherished fishing trips with his children and had a big heart for animals, especially when it came to rescuing farm animals. He found joy in family gatherings, enjoying barbecues with his nieces and nephews, and hitting the casino for some fun with family and friends.
For over 30 years, Jorge was a devoted member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was the oldest member of the Knights of Columbus and became known for his role in serving tea at the church’s annual fish fry—a testament to his commitment to his community.
Jorge is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Elena Escamilla; brothers, Pedro “Pete” Escamilla and Robert Fuentes; sister, Diamatina Elizondo; son, Johnny Escamilla; daughter, Celia Escamilla; and grandson, Matthew Rule.
