It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Austin. Alice went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 2, 2025.
A rosary will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 110 Little Flower Way, in Panhandle, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., and Funeral Mass will be on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11 p.m. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Alice was born to Louis and Sophia Leven on Aug. 10, 1938. She went to school and graduated from Groom. She married Jimmy Austin on Jan. 31, 1959.
Growing up in Groom, she worked in the family laundry business that served the hospital. She started her career at the post office as a clerk once her children were in school. She retired from the post office after 25 years of service in 1992. In her retirement years, Jimmy and Alice enjoyed driving rental cars with Avis. Golf was her passion. Alice and Jimmy went on many trips to various golf courses around Texas. She also enjoyed playing poker amongst friends, she was an avid puzzler, domino and sudoku player.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Austin; her parents, Louis and Sophia Leven; her brother, Herman Leven; and sister, Bernadine Burch.
She is survived by her children, Alicia Rose of Amarillo, Cathy Austin Smith of Panhandle, Steve Austin and wife Bernie of Amarillo; and her sister, Ann Mansel of Amarillo. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, Katrina Vaughn and husband John David of Boys Ranch, Jason George of Panhandle, Greg Smith and wife Tammy of Panhandle, Joshua George and wife Jennifer of Amarillo, Jarrod George and wife Cristy of Quanah, Michael Smith of Pampa, and Eryn Adams and husband Chance of Lubbock. Alice is survived by her 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
