Franklin Douglas “Doug” Bednorz, 83, of Panhandle, Tpassed away on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026.
The rosary will be recited Friday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Panhandle. The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle following the Mass.
Doug was born on April 6, 1942, in White Deer, to Mary (Moravitz) and Julius Bednorz. He was a lifelong member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Panhandle. Doug graduated from Panhandle High School in 1960. He owned and operated Doug’s Body Shop n Panhandle for 39 years. Doug loved baking cookies for his grandkids, making fudge, gardening/canning, woodworking, and most of all fishing at Eagle Nest Lake with his kids. He also enjoyed helping with the Carson County Stock Show for many years.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deborah Elaine Bednorz; brothers, Don and Johnny Bednorz; sisters, Leona Mathes, Pauline Lowe, Larrine Qualls and Betty Calkins.
Mourning the loss of their father are Kim and husband Pat Weinheimer of Groom, Brent Bednorz of Baltimore, Md., Janie and husband Corey Cheek of Prosper, Texas, Pam and husband Phil Knoeber of Spearville, Kan. Doug is also survived by sisters, Mary Lee Hebert of Lake Charles, La., and Rose McNamara of Texas. Doug was blessed with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
