Gwendol Lee Simmons passed away on Sept. 3, 2025, in Amarillo.
A funeral service was held on Sept. 6, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Panhandle. Burial followed at Panhandle Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Gwendol was born on Aug.10, 1933, in Driggs, Ark. He had a distinguished career as a chemist for Phillips Petroleum. His professional journey was underscored by a strong sense of duty that also found expression during his service in the United States Army, where he served as a Medic.
Gwendol was a longstanding deacon at the First Baptist Church in Borger and Panhandle, where he made significant contributions to the spiritual life of those around him. His involvement in the Square Dance Club brought joy and camaraderie to many throughout the years.
Gwendol’s interests also extended into the great outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Gwendol was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Imogene Neal.
He is survived by his brother, Darrell Simmons of Panhandle; grandnieces and nephews, Niva McGowan, Lydia Ross, and Curtis Ross.
