White Deer ISD Board Briefs

— By Duane Limbaugh —

The White Deer ISD Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on Monday, April 14. The meeting opened with the invocation and was followed by the approval of the agenda and the minutes from the March 24 board meeting.

A special highlight of the evening was a performance by White Deer High School’s state-qualifying saxophone quartet. Their outstanding musical talent was met with great appreciation from the Board and those in attendance.

The Board discussed and approved a resolution requesting additional state aid for an ad valorem tax credit related to the Pattern Panhandle Wind Project. This request ensures that the district is reimbursed by the state for the local tax reductions granted under agreements that incentivize renewable energy development. These agreements, while reducing the taxable value for wind projects, do not reduce funding to the district, as the state makes up the difference through this aid mechanism.

Board training hours were read aloud and recorded, with all board members having exceeded the required training standards, reflecting a continued commitment to effective governance.

Planning for the upcoming Employee Appreciation Dinner was discussed. The event is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., where the district will recognize the hard work and dedication of its staff.

Administrative reports from the high school, elementary and athletics departments were reviewed. The business manager’s financial report was also reviewed and discussed. The superintendent provided a report on the overall health of the district and a maintenance report was reviewed.

Personnel actions included the approval of Cassidy Bischel as the new Girls’ Athletic Coordinator. Additionally, two new hires were approved for the 2025–2026 school year: Morgan McBee for an elementary teaching position and Shardon White for a secondary teaching position. The Board also accepted the resignation of John Anderson with appreciation for his service to the district.

The meeting concluded with a strong sense of progress and appreciation for the students, staff and leadership that continue to shape White Deer ISD’s success.
