Alan D. Olson, 68, of Pampa, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025 in Amarillo.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Walt Olson, Alan’s brother, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Alan will be available for viewing from 1 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025 and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025 at the funeral home.
Alan was born on March 13, 1956 in Hereford to Lloyd and Fannie Cole Olson. He attended school in Hereford and graduated from Hereford High School in 1974. After graduating, Alan enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1978. Alan then enlisted in the Army National Guard and was a lifetime member of the National Guard Association of Texas. Alan worked as an accountant at Tejas Feeders for over 30 years until his retirement in 2021.
Alan married Rebecca McCollum on Dec. 25, 2004. They were married for 19 years until her passing in 2024. Alan loved spending time with his family especially at Christmas when he could participate in his second favorite thing to do, eating good food. He enjoyed working on cars and was a very gifted mechanic his younger years. Alan also enjoyed watching TV, specifically Star Wars, Star Trek, and WWE Wrestling. He was a sweet and gentle man; he avoided confrontation except when it came to Nerf Gun wars with his grandson. Alan will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Olson; his parents, Lloyd and Fannie Olson; and one son, Willie Downhour, III.
Alan is survived by his three children, Jonathan Olson and wife Annie, Angela Gatchell, and Christopher Olson; one stepson, Ricky Spiller and wife Cindy; three grandchildren, DJ Olson, Ashley Westbrook and husband Dakota, and Kylie Lewis; two step-grandchildren, Jacqueline Spiller and Colton Spiller; step great-grandchildren, Sophia Spiller and Olivia Spiller; two great-grandchildren, James Lee Downhour and Dakota Westbrook, Jr.; five siblings, Sheila and husband Alan Hardin, Walter Olson and wife Jacque, Daniel Olson and wife Michelle, Richard Olson and wife Julie, Penny and husband Howard Reining; and numerous nieces and nephews.
