Nita Walker Duncan, 91, passed away on March 18, 2025, surrounded by family.
Nita was born on June 29, 1933 in Conway, Texas to Dollie McCartney Walker and James Otis Walker. Raised in Panhandle on the Walker family farm, Nita was the baby girl amongst four brothers – Melvin, Jim, Bob and Pat. Nita attended Amarillo Junior College completing a secretarial program before working at Pantex plant. Nita and her husband, Fred Duncan, met at Pantex and resided in Amarillo for more than 50 years where they raised two children, a daughter, Lisa and son, Todd.
After retiring from Pantex following 40 years of service, Nita began one of her favorite roles – being a wonderful “Mema” to her three granddaughters, Alysee, Erica, and Madison. Nita made every visit with Mema special, once searching all of Amarillo for gummy fish and blue Jello for a snack that her granddaughters were determined to make! Recently Nita had the joy of becoming a “great Mema” to great-grandsons, Jack Walker and Arie Emile.
Nita will be remembered by her family and friends for her spirit and energy. Always stylish, Nita’s friends nicknamed her “Mustang Sally” for her bright outfits and notable red glasses. Spirited until her last days, Nita will be remembered by her family and friends for her vivacity.
Nita was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Duncan; son, Todd Duncan; stepson Ronald Duncan; grandson, Robert Duncan; and brothers, Melvin, Jim, Bob, and Pat.
