Light and Blackburn advance to State Cross Country Meet

On Saturday, Nov. 1, Panhandle High School Sophomore Emrey Light and Freshman Bentlye Blackburn will be competing at the State UIL Cross Country Meet in Round Rock at Old Settlers Park at 10:55 a.m.
The pair qualified for the State Meet with Light placing 15th place overall with a time of 13:20, and Blackburn placing 16th place with an overall time of 13:21 at the Regional Meet in Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
The Pantherette team of seven finished in seventh place in a field of 172 runners. Also running for the Ettes were Sophomore Annie Pahl with a time of 13:34 for 22nd place, Freshman Sawyer Brookshire – 14:02 for 45th place, Junior Andrea Garcia – 15:17 for 117th place, Freshman Emmalyn Harris – 15:57 for 143rd place, and Junior Alek Winegeart – 16:31 for 150th place.
The Varsity boys finished their season at the Regional Meet. Senior Slade Bertrand earned 48th place with a personal best for the Mae Simmons Park course with a time of 19:17. Also marking his personal best for the course was Junior Trevor Jenkins with a time of 19:46 for 64th place.
