Eighth Grade Panthers suffer defeat in Dalhart

The eighth grade Panthers traveled to Dalhart for their second game of the season and ran into a strong Dalhart team. The final score was Dalhart 40 – Panhandle 8.

Panhandle received the opening kick-off and Jones Winegeart picked up a 1st down. In this series, Winegeart completed a 12-yard pass to Hawkins Heck but eventually turned the ball over on downs. Winegeart made a good hit on defense, causing a fumble while Panhandle recovered. Isaac Watkins had a 8-yard pass reception but the series ended with a punt. The first quarter ended in a 0 – 0 tie.

With 6:30 on the second quarter clock, Dalhart scored a touchdown then made a 2-point PAT to take an 8 – 0 lead. Winegeart completed a 30-yard pass to Hunter Brame, following runs by Winegeart and Kayson Ogletree, for a 1st and 10. Winegeart picked up 9 then completed an 89-yard pass to Brame for a 1st down. Ogletree carried for 4 yards and a pass to Heck was good but ended with an interception and the half-time score is 8 – 0.

Panhandle kicked off to start the second half and Brame got the tackle. With 6:50 on the clock, Dalhart scored and made the 2-point conversion to pull ahead 16 – 0. The Panther offense was stopped, and Dalhart took over on downs and scored with 2:51 on the clock, the 2-point PAT made the score Dalhart 24 – Panhandle 0. Following the kick-off, Panhandle was unable to get their 1st down so punted with 1:13 left in the third quarter. With 17 ticks left on the clock, Dalhart scored a touchdown and made a 2-point conversion to lead 32 – 0 going into the fourth quarter.

Panhandle had possession of the ball and on the final play of the third period, Winegeart had a 12-yard run to give Panhandle a 1st and 10. With 6:16 left in the game, Winegeart scored on a 20-yard run. Panhandle made the 2-point PAT, and it was Panhandle 8 – Dalhart 32. With 1:01 left in the game, Dalhart scored another touchdown and added the 2-point PAT to make the final score Panhandle 8 – Dalhart 40.

Winegeart led the team in tackles with six while Kellan Biggs and Brame had four each. Ogletree had three tackles, and Aksel Bertrand, Ben Sadau and Watkins had two each. Heck, Rowdy Hunt and Jaxxen Bichsel had one each.
