The Junior Varsity Panthers traveled to Stratford to face the Elks on a damp Thursday night. On their first possession Max Downs broke loose and ran the ball 70 yards down the field to take an early first quarter lead. Parker Lumpkin ran in the 2-point conversion with an acrobatic hurdle at the goal line. The score was 8-0 with 4:34 remaining in the first quarter. The Elks would respond with 45 seconds remaining in the first quarter on a 3-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion was no good making the score 8-6. The second quarter was a defensive standoff with no scoring by either team which sent the panthers into halftime with a 2-point advantage.
The Panthers would get back on the board in the third quarter with a Lumpkin 4-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion was good on a Zach Andrews to Jaxson Baird pass. This gave the Panthers a 2-score lead at 16-6. The Elks would answer on their very next drive on a 70-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion was good cutting the Panther lead to 16-14. The defenses exchanged stops throughout the remainder of the third quarter.
The offenses would again struggle in the fourth quarter and with 3:30 remaining in the fourth quarter the Panther defense was tasked with keeping the Elks out of the end zone with a short field. The secondary was up for the task as they batted down multiple balls. They got the ball back with under 1:30 and were able to run the rest of the clock out.
