Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Llano Mausoleum Cemetery with the Rev. Lance Herrington officiating. Arrangements were by Schooler Funeral Home of Amarillo.
Trula was born Jan. 10, 1930, in Amarillo to John and Lena Slater of Panhandle. She attended Amarillo High School and graduated in 1946. She attended Hardin Simmons University and graduated from West Texas State University. She married Clarence Harold Sutton in Amarillo in 1948.
She was a longtime member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She loved children and taught in the Gallup-McKinley County School system for many years. She was an avid master at the skill of counted cross stitching. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, extremely generous and known for being self-sacrificing. She loved the mountains of northern New Mexico and the rustic family cabin in the Idlewild Community.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, John Harold Sutton; a brother, William Cameron Slater II; and her parents.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Mueller and husband Carl of Amarillo and Kathleen “Kathy” Campbell and husband Troy of Corpus Christi; two sons, Gary Sutton and wife Mary of Medford, Ore., and James “Jim” Sutton of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Megan Hicks, Courtney Penrod, Brandon Campbell, Breanna Sanchez and Bridget Campbell; and nine great-grandchildren.
