Trent Douglas Curtis
Trent was born on Aug. 6, 1967, at West Point Hospital in West Point, N.Y., to Mary Kathryn Curtis and Bob Wayne Curtis. Shortly thereafter they moved to Panhandle, where Trent was a proud and passionate Panhandle Panther. He played football, participated in theatre, was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, worked as a lifeguard at the city pool, was active in his church youth group, and was voted most friendly in his senior class. It was here in Panhandle where he met his future wife, Tonya Parsons Curtis, at the ages of 5 and 4, respectively. Trent graduated from Panhandle High School in 1985 and went on to study at Amarillo College and West Texas State University.
After a year of studying, Trent went on to work multiple jobs before moving to Dallas to work for Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Company where he worked his way up from the warehouse to sales representative over 30 years of employment. On Nov. 11, 1989, Trent and Tonya married at First Baptist Church of Panhandle after years of dating, going on to have three children, Emily, Abby and Derek.
Trent was a devout follower of Christ his entire life, from being baptized at age 10, to leading Bible studies and serving as a deacon for many years at First Baptist Flower Mound and Northview Baptist. He always made sure his family was in church, instilling the same strong Christian values in his children that were instilled in him. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Tonya, Emily, Abby and Derek and worked tirelessly to support them.
Trent was passionate about many things, including, but not limited to, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, music, and Matchbox cars. He could often be found catching the latest game or browsing the local antique stores in hopes of finding a new car for his collection. He could talk your ear off about sports or tell you all the details about what made each Matchbox special.
Anyone who was fortunate enough to meet Trent knew that he never met a stranger. He brought light and laughter everywhere he went and could make people laugh without even trying. He had an infectious spirit and smile. If you were lucky enough, you even earned a nickname that he would commit to memory. He had a knack for turning the most mundane activities into some of the most fun and memorable moments.
Trent was predeceased by his father, Bob Curtis, and brother, Scott Curtis. He leaves behind his wife, Tonya Curtis, children Emily Curtis Hawthorne and spouse, Cameron Hawthorne; Abby Curtis Barton and spouse, Taylor Barton; and Derek Curtis; mother, Mary Curtis; and brother, Bruce Curtis.
His service will be held on April 7 at 11 a.m. at Northview Baptist Church in Lewisville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Trent’s honor to Northview Baptist Church.
