Services were held Monday, July 22, in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with the Rev. Jim Fox, chaplain of IntegraCare Hospice officiating. Burial was in Field of Valor at Llano Cemetery East with arrangements by Rector Funeral Home of Amarillo.
Mrs. Martinez was born June 3, 1921, in Santa Rosa, N.M. She moved to Amarillo in 1951 from New Mexico. She worked as a seamstress for many years and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She married Jose “Joe” Gilbert Martinez on Sept. 1, 1942. They were married 70 wonderful years. Mrs. Martinez was described by her family as a “little firecracker” because she was so active, even in her 90s. She dearly loved her family and was always helping others. She loved cooking meals for her elderly neighbors. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of Amarillo; a son, Robert Martinez and wife Louisa of Panhandle; two daughters, Linda Reichart and husband Ken of Rowlett and Mary Herron and husband Roy of San Antonio; five grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Wesley Community Center youth activities or the activity department of Georgia Manor Nursing Home.
