Services were held Saturday, Sept. 7, in Oasis Southwest Baptist Church with Pastor Bradley Speer officiating. Burial was in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements were by Cox Funeral Home of Amarillo.
Roger was born Jan. 11, 1949, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to Robert and Janet Lucas. He moved to Amarillo with his family at age 6, where he graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1967. Roger married his love, Doris Jean Pittman, on Feb. 28, 1969, in Amarillo.
He began his career at the Amarillo Police Department in 1972, where he served as field patrol officer and taught at the academy. He also spent many years on the motor squad, ending his employment in 1991.
Roger enlisted in the Navy in 1987, serving as a master at arms until his honorable discharge in 1995. He worked for Pantex as a guard beginning in 1991, retiring in 2010. Roger was a hardworking man who demonstrated a great work ethic and love for his wife. Even after his retirement, he and Jeannie owned their own business, doing landscaping and maintenance for Housing and Urban Development. They enjoyed many RV trips and traveled across the country to places such as Canada and Maine. He had been a member of Oasis Southwest Baptist Church for the last four years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Lucas of Panhandle; a son, John Lucas and wife Billie of Oshkosh, Wis.; a daughter, Wendy Harrison and husband Brad of Amarillo; two brothers, Bruce Lucas and wife Barbara of Clarendon and Bob Lucas and wife Maurene of Washington; eight grandchildren, Michael Vazquez, Jenna Lucas, Todd Bittick, Rebecca Lucas, Tristan Bittick, Lexi Harrison, Levi Harrison and Emily Harrison; and two great-grandchildren, Kolton and Fiona Vazquez.
