Memorial services will be Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at 12:30 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in McKinney, Texas with Pastors Houska and Thompson, officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Robert was born on Aug. 7, 1934 in Panhandle, the fourth child of Edith and Donald Hollcroft. He was raised in Kermit, Texas; however, after his father's death, the family moved back to Panhandle, where he later graduated from Panhandle High School in 1952. Robert attended Texas A&M University for two years and completed his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas.
Robert was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years active duty as an illustrator to correlate artwork and photographs to written manuscripts for The Preventive Maintenance Monthly, a monthly magazine with comic book-style art to illustrate proper preventive maintenance methods. He attained the rank of Specialist Four and was stationed at Fort Dix, N.J.
After completing his military commitment, Robert was employed by the City of Odessa, Texas, Mason & Hanger, Silas Mason (Pantex) in Amarillo and Martin Marietta in Piketon, Ohio. He had many jobs throughout the years, but he enjoyed most working with computers and repairing or building projects, using his hands to help others.
Robert married Lois Horton Sizemore on April 1, 1980 in Amarillo, where they enjoyed square dancing and playing cards with their many friends. After retiring, he and Lois worked with Laborers for Christ, an organization with the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, where they traveled around the country building churches. They settled in Allen, Texas and became members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in McKinney, where he served as an Elder. Robert loved being part of the Old Geezers, which was a group of men who found joy in fellowship and worked together to complete maintenance projects for the church and various church members.
We have so many wonderful memories of Robert as a husband, father, grandfather and friend. Some favorites include the life lessons he taught, dressing up as Santa for the grandchildren, building a television from a Radio Shack kit, motorcycle rides, card and domino games and his love of football. Robert loved people and was always interested in learning more about them. His guidance and gentle spirit will be missed.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Donald Hollcroft (1950); mother, Edith Hollcroft (1988); sisters, Doris Jay (2004) and Ruth Purvines Prendergast (1975); and a brother, Joseph Donald Hollcroft (1978).
Survivors include his wife, Lois Hollcroft; four daughters, Cheryl and husband Tony Davis of Arvada, Colo., Leisa and husband Tex Phillips of Amarillo, Cathy and husband Terry Gray of Niceville, Fla., Cynthia and husband Joe Horton of Plano, Texas; and two sons, Bobby Sizemore and wife Lori of Los Lunas, N.M. and Terry Sizemore of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the church following the service. We invite all who knew and loved him to come and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Salvation Army or a favorite charity.
