1953 - 2021

Phillip Miller, 67 of Amarillo, died Sept. 24, 2021.

Rosary will be said at 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 27, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 at the church. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in White Deer Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Phillip was born June 20, 1953 in Chickasha, Okla. to Jean and Joseph Miller. They moved to White Deer, when Phillip was in elementary school after his parents purchased, the White Deer News and later the Panhandle Herald. After graduating from high school, Phil earned a degree from the University of Oklahoma before following in his father's footsteps of buying the Groom News in Groom. Phil would continue for the next 30 years publishing weekly newspapers in Groom, Claude and McLean. Shortly after retirement, Phil was elected into the Texas Newspaper Hall of Fame.

Phil was an avid University of Oklahoma sports fan. Most crazed by watching his Sooners play football on Saturdays, but his support went far beyond football to all sports, from basketball to women’s softball.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Miller in 2015; brother-in-law, Dalton Stewart.

Phil is survived by sons, Marcus Miller and wife Leslie of Justin, Texas and Matthew Phillip Miller and wife Ginger) of Roswell, N.M.; sister, Teri Stewart of Weatherford, Texas; brother, Rodney Miller of Ninnekah, Okla.; mother, Jean Miller of White Deer; and grandchildren, Cheyanne, Riley, Mason, Adeline, Jessie and Payton.
