The Panhandle Chamber of Commerce met Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in the Square House Museum Hazlewood Building. Chairman Rick Easter presided over the meeting; a total of l6 members and guests were in attendance.
The invocation was given by Nathan Vogt.
Guest Mike Moore, a representative of the Pattern Wind Energy, gave a report on the wind farms, both present and those planned for future dates. He told of the beginning of the project up to the present time; he also emphasized the benefits that would be coming to Panhandle because of the many windmills erected in this area. He said in the near future Pattern Energy would be having a job fair in Panhandle; the Chamber hopes to help in getting the word out concerning the job fair when the time comes.
Members were informed about the Panhandle Tourism Marketing Council and the importance it has played in assisting various groups in being recognized for particular projects. We have been invited, as a Chamber, to be a member of this organization. Motion was made by Mike Brandvik and seconded by Glenda Holt that we pay our $50 membership dues and the vote to do so was unanimous.
Shelly Fish-Oliver gave a report on the upcoming Fun Run, held during the 4th of July festivities. Rick appointed Shelly as chairman of a committee to check out that activity and to see how the Chamber might be able to assist, if needed. A motion was made by Shirlene Grantham and seconded by CJ Kelly; those present voted for the project.
Because of several ‘unknown’ factors concerning the future of the Chamber, the regularly scheduled ‘spring garage sale’ was put on hold. The Chamber got a ‘second breath’ and is, now, able to look toward projects that benefit our town; one of those being the Garage Sale. Several members, at the meeting, joined together to see that it gets 'off the ground, and the date is set for Saturday, July 27; some good opportunities for pre-school purchases! Shaun Wink and Glenda Hoyt will be getting more information out to everyone in the next few weeks who will want to participate in that community activity.
Make plans now to attend the next Chamber Meeting on Tuesday, July 9 at the Hazlewood Building, at 7 p.m.. The Chamber wants to benefit the needs of our businesses; if you have a business, or if you are just interested in keeping Panhandle before this area of Texas, your input at the meetings will be beneficial.
