Services were held Friday, Oct. 11, in Llano Cemetery with arrangements by Cox Funeral Home of Amarillo.
Montella was born March 12, 1922, in Nowata, Okla., to Jesse and Misha Martin. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1942. She married Louis Ervin “L.E.” Thaxton in January 1945 in Stinnett. She had been a resident of Amarillo for more than 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, J.L. Martin; and her youngest daughter, Marilyn Joyce Reynolds.
Survivors include two daughters, Erma McPherson and husband Joel of Amarillo and Carolyn Wade and husband Warren of Mesquite; seven grandchildren, Joella McPherson of Amarillo, Amy Reed and husband Kelly of Panhandle, Brent McPherson and wife Kristin of Yorktown, Va., Stephanie Wellman of Mesquite, Curtis Wade and wife Paige Janca of Rockwall, Michael Reynolds of Spearman and Jeffery Reynolds and wife Katja of Amarillo; 10 great-grandchildren, Marissa McKinney and husband Michael of Mesquite, Jordan Buck Reed and Kayley Reed of Panhandle, Chelsey Wellman of Mesquite, Tiffany and Megan Reynolds of Amarillo, Taylor and Brenden McPherson of Yorktown and Madison and Cammie Wade of Rockwall; and a great-great-grandson, Caleb McKinney of Mesquite.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Interim Hospice for the care given to her.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Music Ministry.
