Mike was born on June 26, 1940 in Pampa to Ruth and Jesse J. Goad. Mike attended Pampa schools and was a lifelong resident. As a young man he worked at the family’s farm/ranch which brought him much pride and enjoyment. He later married the love of his life, Mary Jane Barnhart on April 6, 1963 and they shared many great years of marriage until her passing on Feb. 13, 2019.
After the family ranch sold, Mike helped other ranchers with their cattle. Following his ranch work, he went to work for a few years at Celanese and later started with the Pampa Independent School District, faithfully working to help keep the schools in good condition before retiring 25 years later. Once Mike retired, he returned to his love of cattle and worked for the Chisum Ranch for a few more years.
Mike loved spending time in the outdoors, hunting and his love of football, especially the Dallas Cowboys; every Sunday the game was watched without exception. He’ll be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and he will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include his two daughters, Pamela and husband Mike Tapp of Oklahoma and Connie Estep of Pampa; his sister, Louise Jones of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter-in-law, Cindy Goad of Broken Arrow, Okla.; four granddaughters, Erica Helms of Pampa, Jesse and husband Ty Walker of Norman, Okla., Ann Alessi and wife Stephanie of New York, N.Y. and Emita Vara of Pampa; four grandsons, Damian Valdez of Cincinnati, Ohio, Andrew Valdez and wife Erica of Chouteau, Okla., Stephen Goad and wife Miranda of Inola, Okla., and Brett Goad and wife Sheila of Tulsa; and 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; two sisters, Jane Smith and Patricia Goad; brother, Jessie Goad; and by his son, Michael Ray Goad, on March 5, 2018.
