Melvin Travis Thrasher
1938 - 2021

Melvin Travis Thrasher, 82 of White Deer, passed away, March 20, 2021 at his home in White Deer.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at First Baptist Church of White Deer with Pastor Alan Wilson, officiating. Burial will follow in White Deer Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Melvin’s service will be livestreamed through the funeral home’s website.

Melvin was born on Sept. 16, 1938 in Waco, Texas, to Cleo and Mose Thrasher. He grew up on a farm in Leroy and attended school in Axtell. After high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed at Reese Air Force Base and was later discharged in 1959. While in the military, he married Nancy Dial and they shared several good years before she preceded him in death in 1970. He found love again when he later met and married Glenda Gorman and they married in 1970 in Amarillo. After his tenure with the military, he worked as a service manager for International Harvester Trucks in Amarillo and Waco. They later moved to White Deer in 1975 and have lived there ever since.

Melvin worked at Superior RV for several years. He owned and operated Melvin’s Hot Shot Service for ten years. Melvin continued working and did pipeline inspection for four years before retiring in 2010. He was a member of First Baptist Church of White Deer. He liked to spend time with his wife, and they enjoyed boating, fishing, riding motorcycles and ATVs in the mountains.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and by a sister, Peggy Box Hemmes.

His survivors include his wife, Glenda Thrasher of the home; a son, Marvin Thrasher and wife Tina; two granddaughters, Makenzie Thrasher and Maegan Thrasher; two sisters, Vivian and husband, Gene Knuckles and Cecelia and husband, Sammy Spedale; six nieces, Kathryn and husband, George Nigro, Jeana and husband, Ronnie Gonzales, Sandra Marler, Shelly Box, Twyla and husband, Blaine Painter and Tina and husband, Richard Christensen; four nephews, Randy and wife, Frances, Tracy Box and wife, Tracy, Phillip Spedale and wife, Tiffany, Daniel Spedale and wif,e Melissa; and other extended family.
