Maynard grew up in the St. Francis Community of Amarillo. He served as a caretaker of the cemetery and worked the St. Francis Sausage Dinner for many years. He attended St. Francis Church where he was a lifelong member.
He farmed in Washburn, for more than 60 years. He loved farming. He loved the ground and never stopped farming, watching the crops and the weather for the present-day farmers.

Maynard was one of the first Volunteer Firemen in Washburn, where he played a major role in setting everything in motion for them. He was part of the Pullman Co-op. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis and the American Legion in Claude.

Maynard never met a stranger. He always wore a smile. He loved his family and friends. He brought smiles to many making his bow tie dollar bills.

Maynard Joseph Bichsel was the first born of Martha and Aloys Bichsel. The eldest brother of C.J. Bichsel, Frances Goodin, Regene Connell and Georgina Bichsel. He was the husband of Maxine Baird for 55 years. He was the father of Sue Peck, Pat Bichsel, Paula Cornett and Larry Bichsel and wife Bonnie. The granddad of Jennifer Cornett, Stephanie Slack, Andrew Cornett, Nickey Bichsel, Ada Bichsel and Larry II. He was the great-granddad of Brianna Rumbaugh and husband Tim, Shawn and Sharayah Slack, Tyler and Jasper Cornett, Danielle Lewis, Kylah and Chloe Cornett. The great-great-granddad of Jensynn Jane Rumbaugh, who was the apple of his eye; and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
