Joe Gilbert Martinez

Services were held Saturday, Sept. 7, in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Jim Fox, chaplain of Hospice Care of the Southwest, officiating. Burial was in Llano Cemetery East Field of Valor. Military Honors were by DAV Chapter No. 26. Arrangements were by Rector Funeral Home of Amarillo.

Mr. Martinez was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Cuervo, N.M. He served in the Army during World War II. He moved to Amarillo in 1951 from New Mexico. Mr. Martinez was a loving father and husband. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mr. Martinez worked at Baptist St. Anthony’s Healthcare System in the maintenance department for many years.

He married the love of his life, Sadie Sena, on Sept. 1, 1943. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2013.

Mr. Martinez was always smiling and had a kind spirit that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He will be missed.

Survivors include a son, Robert Martinez and wife Louisa of Panhandle; two daughters, Linda Reichert and husband Ken of Rowlett and Mary Herron and husband Roy of San Antonio; two sisters, Dorothy Baca and Clorinda Aragon, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Jake Martinez of Tucumcari, N.M., and Tony Martinez of Clovis, N.M.; five grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Georgia Manor Nursing Home Activities Fund, 2611 S.W. 46th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79110.
