Helen Sharp, age 94, went to her heavenly home and was met by her Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 22, 2019. Helen passed away in Carnegie, Okla.

A graveside service will be at 2 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 27, at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, Texas, under the direction of Ray & Martha’s Funeral Home in Carnegie.

Helen was born to Nellie and Charles Richerson on Nov. 19, 1924 in Quinton, Okla. She was one of 10 children. Most of her childhood years were spent growing up in Amarillo, until she met Darl Dean Sharp of Panhandle, at age 16. They were married on Oct. 18, 1942 and lived in Panhandle for many years. During their 61 years of marriage, they had and are survived by their three sons, Don Sharp and his wife Linda from Sherman, Jerry Sharp and his wife Kay from Carnegie, Okla. and Van Sharp and his wife Penni from Richardson, Texas.

In February 1975, Helen accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She then joined and was an active charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Panhandle and served in many areas and ministries there. She especially loved the mission trips to Mexico to help people in need.

Our mom was a very multi-talented lady. While raising her three sons, she was always a wonderful mom, homemaker, seamstress, gardener and excellent cook – her pies were simply the best! Among her many other hobbies and interests were fishing, country music, the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys, operating a hair salon, knitting, genealogy and dancing a waltz - her favorite. She was a very talented and self-taught artist and painter as well. Mom loved painting scenes with fish, birds, horses and cattle and various country and western themes. Over the years she sold many of her paintings. Helen and Darl were also avid golfers and were charter members of the Panhandle Country Club. Helen was the ladies golf champion for several years in the annual tournaments there. They enjoyed many wonderful rounds of golf with every golfer in town for many years.

Besides her three sons, Helen leaves six grandchildren, Kelly Smalts, Roger Sharp, Jessica Sharp, Stephen Sharp, David Sharp and Donna Montgomery; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew Smalts, Emily Sharp, Alyssa Sharp and Ian Montgomery.
