Burial will take place at Panhandle Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Jan. 4, followed by funeral services at First Baptist Church Sanctuary, on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 at 2 p.m., in Amarillo with Dr. Howard K. Batson, Ryan Hodges, and Tyler Ferguson, officiating. Jack will be in state on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home.
Jack was born July 26, 1934 in Collingsworth County, Texas to Marguerite and Walter Hodges. During Jack’s childhood, he lived in Sunnyside and Dimmitt. Jack graduated from Dimmitt High School. In August of 1952, he married Beth Hance. They farmed in Castro County, then moved to Saint Jo, where they ranched. After Jack’s ranching career, he and Beth moved to Amarillo, where Jack proudly served at the Amarillo Police Department until 1963. Jack then worked at Pantex, where he retired as Captain of Security. The couple made their home in Panhandle before moving back to Amarillo. After retirement, Jack inspected cattle for area banks. Jack’s hobby was the cattle industry. He was a member of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association. He also taught middle school boys’ classes.
Jack was a faithful man of God. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Amarillo. He was also a member of the Barnabus Class.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Hodges; and his in-laws, Beral and Raymond Hance; and his sister-in-law, Linda and her husband, Jim Karagas.
Survivors include his wife, Beth; daughters, Sheralyn and husband, Rick Bowersock of Wichita Falls and Keri Ferguson of Houston; son, Boyd Hodges of Durango, Colo.; six grandchildren: Kent Bowersock and wife Stacy, Rob Bowersock, Tyler Ferguson and wife Brittney, Ryan Hodges and wife Katy, Spencer Hodges and Lexi Hodges; great-grandchildren Tegan, Finley, Quinn and Rainey Ferguson; one brother, Carl Hodges and wife Beth; brother-in-law Kent Hance and wife Susie; and special nieces, Tracey and husband Duane Bunce and Paige and husband Jeff Bales; and many other nieces and nephews.
His children and grandchildren looked up to him and they were influenced greatly by his love for God and his strong character.
