Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, at Panhandle Cemetery with Father Hrudaya Raju Kondamudi officiating. Burial is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Skip was born Oct. 7, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio to Beatrice Margaret (Merrick) and Harold Paul Smith Sr. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Panhandle. He co-owned Plains Aluminum Industries “Dust Stoppers”, with his brother that was founded in 1953 by their father. Skip was a Correctional Officer IV with five years of service. He was an lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America, which includes his accomplishments of Eagle Scout, numerous national and international Scout Jamborees, Scout Master, Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow and the Silver Beaver Award. He was a former volunteer Fire Fighter and EMT for the city of Panhandle. He loved railroading, camping, photography and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving is his sons, Harold Paul Smith III and wife Stephanie and Jerrell Smith, all of Panhandle; daughters, Mindy and husband Noel Roe of Fritch and Mysti Lynn Smith of Panhandle; his brother, Douglas Smith of Panhandle; his sister, Judy Sharpe-Oglesby and husband Robert Oglesby of Amarillo; and seven grandchildren.
