Esme was born March 25, 1928 in Anton Chico, N.M. at the home of Juan Clemente and Paula (Aguilar) Marquez. She grew up in Anton Chico and Santa Rosa. She attended schools in Santa Rosa.
Esme married Eloy J. Zamora on Oct. 6, 1947 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. In 1953 they made their home in Borger. Panhandle became their home in 1958. Esme was a longtime member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Panhandle.
With a grandmother’s love Esme crocheted blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When her grandson gave her an I-Pad, she was able to keep in touch with all her family. She enjoyed reading their online posts, especially their Facebook posts.
Esme is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eloy J. Zamora in 1993; an infant son, Gilbert Samuel Zamora; two brothers, Joe B. Marquez in 1981, and Johnny Marquez in 2008; and one sister Magdalena Chavez in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter Christine and husband Jesse Romo of Amarillo; three sons, Michael Zamora and wife Peggy of Panhandle, Gilbert Steven Zamora and wife Janette of Bastrop, and Larry Zamora of Amarillo; two sisters, Rose Lopez of Santa Rosa and Theresa Encinias of Las Vegas, N.M.; also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Toni Brasher and Fabbie Fritz, both of Panhandle; along with 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022 at St Theresa Catholic Church, 110 Little Flower Way, Panhandle. A second rosary and the funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. (M.S.T.) Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa.
Pallbearers will include Jeremy Zamora, Geoffrey Zamora, Zach Zamora, Jerome Encinias, Delbert Marquez, and Aiden Spohn. Honorary bearers will include Terry Zamora, George Marquez, and Robert Marquez.
