HEREFORD — Elizabeth “Betty Jo” Joan Bartels, 82, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.

Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in Hereford Heritage Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Tony Neusch, parish priest as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hereford Heritage Funeral Home, 411 E. Sixth St.

Mrs. Bartels was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Nazareth to Joseph and Loretta Kleman Guggemos. She married Leonard Albert Bartels, on Feb. 24, 1954, in Nazareth.

Survivors include four sons, Bill Bartels and Mark Bartels, both of Amarillo, Bruce Bartels and Steve Bartels, both of Hereford; six daughters, Connie Goheen of Littlefield, Mary Jo Chandler of Hale Center, Jean Ann Swanson of Panhandle, Gail Saiz of Amarillo, Cathy Chase of Amarillo and Christie Vanlandingham of Frederick, Colo.; a sister, Rita Hoffman of El Paso, 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church School Endowment Fund, 114 Sunset Drive, Hereford, TX 79045.
