1949 - 2021

Edgar Gordon “Beau” Hileman, 71 of Panhandle, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021 in Amarillo.

Holy Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., Sunday, March 14, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Panhandle. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, March 15, at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

Beau was born in Austin, on March 27, 1949 to Alleen James and Otis W. Hileman. He moved to the Panhandle area in 1968, where he met and fell in love with his wife, Dena Quimby. The couple married on Aug. 12, 1972 at the First United Methodist Church in Panhandle and were blessed with raising two boys.

Beau worked his way up to being a Specialty Mechanical Inspector at Pantex Plant for more than 48 years. He enjoyed welding on the side, teaching his two sons all the trades he mastered and riding his Harley Davidson. Beau was an active volunteer leader in Carson County 4-H for more than 20 years, as well the Christmas Project. Towards the end of his volunteerism with the Christmas Project, he got to fill the shoes as the “Big Guy”, Santa Claus. His most important work for the past 12 years has been as Grandpa to his grandson.

Beau was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Christopher “Fat Cat” Hileman; and his half-sister, JoAnn Carnes.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Dena; son, Otis Paul “Opie” Hileman and wife, Grace Tara-Hileman; as well as his grandson, Maceo Beau Waylon Hileman, of Portland, Ore.
