Doris Rush

Doris Rush
1921 - 2015

She was the daughter of Nelle Humes and Earnest Trogdon of Indiana. Mrs. Rush was born in Sacramento, Calif. on April 9, 1921, and grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. She graduated from Indiana University and was married to Clyde E. Rush in Oct. 1943. They settle in Hereford in 1962.

During her years in Hereford, Mrs. Rush taught Red Cross Swimming lessons to hundreds of children in Hereford. Some of her grandchildren’s fondest memories are of summers spent swimming in the Hereford City Pool.

Mrs. Rush is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. C. E. Rush; a daughter, Lani Long of Hereford; and a son, Dana Rush of Bastrop.

She is survived by daughters, Rosalind Dees and husband Joe of St. Louis, Mo. and Shelly Burelsmith and husband Larry of Lubbock; son Santry Rush of Green Valley, Ariz.; eleven grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was loved by friends and family alike and will be sorely missed.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 at Parkside Chapel Funeral Home in Hereford with Chaplain Jerry Bell, officiating. Interment was at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her six grandsons, Eric Walterscheid of Amarillo, Jason Walterscheid of Panhandle, Kent Walterscheid of Prosper, Texas, Ethan Burelsmith of Lubbock, Santry Rush of Houston and Gavin Rush of Austin.
