WELLINGTON – On Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, one plea took place in Collingsworth County, Texas.

Luke Inman, the District Attorney for the 100th Judicial District, assisted by Harley Caudle, prosecuted the case for the State of Texas, with the Honorable Judge Stuart Messer presiding.

Ruben Joe Cruz was convicted for the state jail felony offense of possession of a controlled substance and sentenced to 16 months in the State Jail Division of TDCJ.

Cruz, 34, from Wellington, was arrested in Collingsworth County by Mike Warren for the offense that took place on Sept. 10, 2014. Cruz pleaded to an information filed by the State on Nov. 4, 2014.

Cruz was originally placed on felony probation on Jan. 12, 2015, receiving two years deferred adjudication. The State filed a motion to adjudicate on Aug. 25, 2015, alleging seven violations of community supervision. Pursuant to the plea agreement, Cruz is also required to pay a $500 fine, $376 in court costs, and $180 in restitution.
