Wellington – On Tuesday, Sept. 10, one plea took place in the 100th Judicial District Court at the Collingsworth County Courthouse. District Attorney Luke Inman, prosecuted the case for the State of Texas, with the Honorable Judge Stuart Messer presiding.

- Alicia Cruz, 19, pleaded true and was sentenced to 12 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the second-degree felony offense of possession of a controlled substance in penalty group one, cocaine.

Cruz, from Wellington, was arrested in Collingsworth County on Dec.1, 2017, by 100th District Attorney’s Office Traffic Enforcement Officer Danny Dawson. Cruz originally pleaded on March 22, 2018, and received six years deferred adjudication when she pleaded to an indictment filed on March 1, 2018.The State filed its motion to adjudicate on July 1, 2019, alleging eight violations of community supervision. In addition to the sentence, Cruz is also required to pay a $500 fine, $180 lab fee, and $376 in court costs.
