A small service was held with Clifford’s children at the home of Stan and Mary Cox.
He was born April 26, 1922, in Panhandle, to Marian (Jolly) and Earl Cox. Clifford was proud to have served in the Navy Seabees from 1942 -1946, in Guadalcanal and Okinawa. After the war, he attended the University of Texas. Following college, he worked as a civil engineer for the Texas Highway Department until he retired. While at the Highway Department, Clifford met and later married Mary Katherine Reid on March 2, 1951, in Austin. Clifford lived in Austin for 73 years.
Besides his family, Clifford had two passions, golf, and UT sports. He had 8 hole-in-ones and played in the Tuesday afternoon scramble at Bluebonnet Hills Golf Club well into his 90’s. He played his last round of golf there at the age of 97.
Clifford was preceded in death by his wife Mary Katherine (Reid) Cox; his parents, Marian (Jolly) and Earl Cox; sister, Evelyn Metcalf; brother, Howard Cox.
Clifford is survived by son, Stan Cox and wife, Mary Elizabeth of Farmers Branch; daughter, Ann Cox of Austin; daughter, Kathy Cox Kovacs and husband Michael of Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren, Kris Way, Adrian Way and Ashley Cox and husband Jeff Dillon; and three great-grandchildren, Ashton Way, Isabelle Way and Ryan Way; and brother, Wayne Edward Cox of Frisco, Texas.
