Charlene Sursa Dozier
1932 - 2021

Charlene Sursa Dozier, 88, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, at the Stinnett Cemetery with Pastor Kade Morrison officiating. To protect the health and safety of all, the family requests that attendees wear a mask and practice social distancing during the service.

Charlene Sursa was born on Oct. 27, 1932 to Marvin and Susie Sursa in Cee Vee, Texas. Charlene was raised in a loving home with eight brothers and two sisters. Charlene attended school in Cee Vee, Patton Springs and Dumont. While a student in Patton Springs, Charlene saw her first football game, was in the Pep Club and played guard on the basketball team.
Charlene met L.T. Dozier when he returned to Dumont after completing his service in the United States Marine Corps. The two were married on March 19, 1948 and made their first home in a one-room dugout on the Dozier home place where L.T. farmed cotton. In 1950, the family moved to a three-room house near Chalk and in 1956 the family moved to Stinnett where Charlene and L. T. built their home and raised their family.

Charlene loved her family and dedicated herself to raising her children in a Christian home. She was spirited and the perfect partner for L.T. for their sixty-eight years of marriage. Charlene was a blessing to her family and many people in her church and community. In writing down her life’s story a few years ago, Charlene thanked the Lord for the “Daddy and Mom He chose for me;” and for giving her “the best and loving husband” and “eight wonderful children, six great daughters-in-law and one great son-in-law.” She also wrote how blessed she was by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She ended her story with “But most of all when I was thirteen the Lord called me to be His child and I answered. Praise the Lord. Love to All.” That was our Charlene, our Mama and our Grandma Charlie. We love her and she will be dearly missed.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Tamie; brothers, Jim, Lloyd, Windall, Marvin, Harold, Hobert, Jack and Johnny; and sisters, Margie and Reba.
She is survived by her children, Garey and wife Terri of Stinnett, Randy and wife Nancy of Lorena, Moe and wife Janet of Waco, Rod and wife Cyndy of Wichita Falls, David and wife Paulette of Panhandle, Monty and wife Mary of Franklin and Dana Cox and husband Kelly of Stillwater, OK; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to Comanche Care Kits in Charlene’s memory. Gifts will be accepted at Interbank in Stinnett or may be sent to the attention of Lori Williams at P-S-P CISD, PO Box 3440, Stinnett TX 79083.
