Barbara Sue White
Barbara was born on Nov. 26, 1936 in Enid, Okla. to Helen and Bernie Green. She graduated from Lambert High School in 1954 and married Jere Addison White on Aug. 28, 1954. They moved to Panhandle in 1959 where they raised their children and built their life.
Barbara worked in the Carson County Clerk’s Office for 25 years and retired as the District and County Clerk in 1998. She was a member of First Christian Church and The River. She was a supportive mother, dear friend of many, and always willing to help anyone in need.
Barbara was known for her fried chicken and cherry pies, her love of Panhandle girls’ high school basketball, her wicked sense of humor and mischievous pranks, and her adoration of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara was a treasure to her family and community. She enjoyed golfing, traveling the world, summers at their cabin in Angel Fire, N.M. and rescuing dogs. She was the most fun person, we ever knew.
She let her grandkids drive the golf cart all around town, bring friends over for sleepovers and buy anything they wanted at the grocery store. She was the best Mau Mau, and she will be missed always.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jere A. White; her grandson, Wesley Steve Sterling; her parents, Helen and Bernie Green; her brother, Bill Green; and her sister, Rosemary Bathurst. What a welcoming party to have as she entered the gates of Heaven. We are sure they are all celebrating big.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberli and Steve Sterling of Amarillo; son, Jere Wayne White of Mount Angel, Ore.; grandchildren, Kelli and Drew Neumeyer of Denver, Colo. and Colby and Marci Sterling of Fort Collins, Colo.; her great-grandchildren, Weslie and Graham Neumeyer and Brighlee and Colton Sterling; and a niece and nephews.
A joint celebration of life will be held for Barbara and Jere in the summer in Angel Fire. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or any animal rescue organization or charity of your choice.
