The 55+ Club met Aug, 7, 2013 in the Panhandle War Memorial Building for the regular weekly meeting. There was a good number present for the meal and visiting; three game tables were active after lunch. It was announced that a new family has moved in and is now working as minister at the Church of Christ; we do welcome to the community Layton and Anna Leatherman and their family; and of course, we always invite any of our Panhandle ministers and their families to come join us for lunch on Wednesdays at their convenience.

Bob Allison, Chairman of the Board, conducted a short session of the Board Members. Mike Morgan was added to the Board Member registrar to fill out the required number of board members. Larry Profitt will be getting a survey sheet ready to pass out to members for suggestions for after lunch activities, and that project will be discussed at a later meeting. Colene Butler passed out new membership sheets with members names, phone numbers and addresses attached.

Accolade Home Health care will be in attendance Aug. 14 for their regular check of vitals; also on Wednesday, Sept. l0, Accolade will be doing flu shots. Colene Butler, President, ask for those wishing to get the shots to let her know in order to give Accolade a better count of those wanting the service. Also, anyone, outside the membership, who would like to get the shot on that day, contact Colene and she will put your name on her list.

Members ask for thoughts and prayers to be given to several in the community as well as for absentee members; those listed were Larry Profitt, back with us after a short illness; Alice Cox’s son, Randy who is battling a severe illness; Dale Roselius, now home and doing much better, and Eugene Schoenhas. A card was signed and sent to the Howard Lane family in memory of their beloved Christiana Lane; her service was held Monday, Aug. 5. Volunteer hours given by the membership for the month of July was 142 hours

July birthday and anniversaries were celebrated; birthday people were: Flois Bichsel, Colene Butler, Lei Shauang Cassidy, J D Kelly and Ruth Nideffer. Those celebrating anniversaries were: a 60th for JD and CJ Kelly, and Harold and Leona Caraway. Accolade brought delicious cake and ice cream to be shared by the club.

The small amounts of rain are appreciated, but we so need to continue our prayers for more substantial moisture. Many of our members have ‘grands’ and ‘great grands’ beginning another school year, so each and all of us need to drive with that in mind...as they are going and coming during the school week. Don't forget to share a ‘smile’ or a ‘wave’ to someone; it will make two people have a better day!!!
